Powers Hell — a logo for the personal brand of IT professional Ben Reader, who now lives in Scotland. Ben has twenty years of experience in IT, works as a.NET developer, is a Microsoft MVP and speaker, and is passionate about cloud technologies, automation, and PowerShell.
Ben is also known in nerd circles for his love of metal, releasing various T‑shirts with the stylized inscription “PowersHell”. He approached me for one of these designs, and together we created a logo in a psychedelic stoner‑doom metal style that will look great on his T‑shirts and website.
Logotype
1. Concept.
Ben said he wanted to use the logo as an updated logo for his personal brand on his website as well as for stickers and tshirts for upcoming conferences. He also mentioned that he is quite drawn to my stoner metal influenced logos: as a reference, he chose the logo that I once made for D&B: Reborn.
So I had to make something clean that scales well, with occult stoner doom metal vibe. It was important to make a separation between “powers” and “hell”. Despite the wish for a clean logo, the client was not against additional details, because it’s great just to have control over it all.

2. Refined sketch.
When approving the sketch, we decided not to use symbolism in the logo, leaving only the lettering and drips, which will be drawn on separate layers to allow for flexibility in the logo’s use.

3. Finalized logo and detailing variations.
The final logo has individual details on separate layers, making it more versatile in use and allowing the client to give it the desired look depending on the situation. Below are the basic logo and two drips variations for it:
Also I made an outline that will allow to highlight the logo when needed. The client can also apply the layer with some drips to it, or use it with the drips from the letters by switching the layers that drawn for it. And the finishing touch are four more layers with the dirt for letters and outline for a more nasty look.
Emblem

In addition to a main logo, an emblem was also made. It contains a stylized Power Shell icon at the bottom. The following images show the sketch that was sent to the client for approval:
